About Infology

“What good librarian would choose to hand ‘truth’ down from the shelves to those who then passively consume it, rather than engage in a dialogue with participative lifelong learners?”

— Paul Miller, Library 2.0, the challenge of disruptive innovation [pdf]

This blog examines how libraries are using Web 2.0 technologies.  Instead of focusing on any specific application, it explores a range of social media technologies — from blogs and photosharing to microblogs and social bookmarking — to see what interesting things libraries are doing online and how they are using the Internet to engage in dialogue with their patrons.

I not only want to see how libraries are using Web 2.0 applications, I also want to get a bit more familiar with these technologies myself (and thus I also created my first twitter account to accompany the blog).

More information about Web 2.0/Library 2.0 and the purpose of this blog can be read on this post.

Finally, this blog was created as part of the LIBR 500: Foundations of Information Technology at the University of British Columbia’s School of Library, Information, and Archival Studies (SLAIS).
